About the Writer

Hello! I’m Shertease, and welcome to BlackLight Fiction, a showcasing of mainly short stories, with a dash of poetry. I won’t put a label on the type of fiction I write, but it’s all rooted in the Black diasporic experience.

I don’t claim to know how to write well, it’s just something I naturally gravitate to. Maybe I don’t write everyday, but sometimes I let it build up, and then it comes out in blizzard of creativity. There’s a sudden release of tension in my spirit that isn’t tied to anything or anyone but me. It’s total freedom without regard to anyone’s feelings, issues, hang-ups, or perceptions. That release reminds me of why I don’t write for money. I don’t want to be obligated to write just for a paycheck. I want to be free to create when, where, and however I like. I write for me, first. My pleasure comes from creating when I want to, without regard for schedules or consequences.

Now, you may not like what I have to say or even understand it. That is life, and it is good. If you do like it and understand it, perhaps we are kindred spirits, and I would love to hear from you! A hundred smiley faces!! If it is the opposite for you, your criticisms are welcomed. An opportunity for growth is all I ever seek. But really, in the end, these are just my writings resulting from creative whims based on old thoughts, new ideas, and all experiences.

If you have any suggestions, advice, anything at all, don’t hesitate to contact me at BlackLightFiction[at]gmail.com

Thanks!
~Shertease
